Database cannot be loaded error message / Loaded database is empty
In certain situations, PhraseExpander might not be able to load your database (the file that contains all your data, templates, and autocorrects).
Your database file is located by default in your Documents folder and is named PhraseExpanderData.pedb.
PhraseExpander may not be able to open it for the following reasons:
- Your database file has been deleted, removed, or renamed
- The configuration file got corrupted, and PhraseExpander is not able to find the previously opened database
- Incorrect user permissions for the folder containing your database file
- The database file is stored in a network folder and is currently unavailable
- The file got corrupted. This could be due to a power failure, or when the database file is stored on a network drive, and multiple people have access to it
NOTE: The PhraseExpander database should always be stored locally, and MUST not be shared with other people. You can use shared glossaries for that.
When the database cannot be opened, PhraseExpander could act in two ways:
- Display a new empty database
- Display the Error opening the PhraseExpander database window
1. PhraseExpander is displaying a new empty database
If PhraseExpander cannot retrieve information about the previously opened database, it may create a new one and display a new empty database.
To restore your previous database
- Click on File > Backup Manager and check for your previous backups as explained in restore a previous copy of your database.
2. PhraseExpander is showing the Error opening PhraseExpander database message
If the database cannot be loaded, the following screen is shown.
To restore your previous database
- Check that the path of the database is correct and that the file actually exists in that location (it may take a while if it's stored on a remote drive)
- If yes, click Retry
- If this doesn't solve the problem, click on Restore from Backup Manager to open the Backup Manager and restore a previous copy of your database.
