How PhraseExpander licensing works

This article discusses the licensing model of PhraseExpander Standard, Professional, and Medical only.

PhraseExpander Enterprise uses a subscription model.

Purchasing a License Key

When you purchase PhraseExpander, you receive a license key via email. This license key is used to activate your PhraseExpander license (the trial will be converted to a licensed version, and all the data you have entered is preserved).

The software is licensed per user, so you’d need to purchase a seat for each user who needs access to PhraseExpander.

For a multi-user license, you’ll receive a single license key that covers all the licensed users.

A license purchase includes:

• A permanent license for the current version of PhraseExpander Standard, Professional, or Medical
• Upgrade protection for one year
• Technical support for one year

Home & Office Pack

The Home & Office Pack allows a licensed user to install PhraseExpander on up to three PCs for their own use.

This is intended for single users who want to use PhraseExpander on multiple personal computers, such as a home computer, a laptop, and an office machine.

The license is still assigned to a single user and cannot be shared between multiple people.

What is the upgrade protection?

Upgrade protection lasts 12 months from the order date or from the expiration of the previous license (for renewals) and gives you access to any new PhraseExpander version released during its coverage period, as well as technical support.

After the upgrade protection period expires, PhraseExpander will continue to work, but you will not be able to install newer versions unless you renew.

Upgrade protection can be renewed at any time during the coverage period (your upgrade protection duration will be extended by one year from the original expiration date) and for up to 60 days after the license expiration (grace period).

Beyond this grace period, your license must be reactivated.

Renewing the upgrade protection

Renewing upgrade protection extends upgrade protection and technical support for another year.

This allows you to continue accessing all new PhraseExpander versions released during the coverage period.

Reactivating an expired license

If your upgrade protection expired more than 60 days ago, you can reactivate the license.

Reactivation restores upgrade protection and technical support for 1 year from the date of reactivation, allowing you to upgrade to the latest version of PhraseExpander and receive technical support for an additional 12 months.

Which do I need? Renewal or reactivation?

Licenses where the upgrade protection expired more than 60 days ago require reactivation.

Upgrading between editions

You can upgrade your license to a different PhraseExpander edition, such as upgrading from Standard to Professional or Medical, or upgrading from Professional to Medical.

To upgrade:

1. Go to the renewal page
2. Select your current edition
3. Choose the upgrade option for the edition you want

For example, a Standard license can be upgraded by selecting "Upgrade Standard to Medical".

Adding additional seats

If you need to add seats, get in touch with support, and as you purchase the new seats, we can co-term the existing licenses with the new ones, so you’ll only need to manage one license key.

Accessing older versions of PhraseExpander

Older versions of PhraseExpander are available for up to one year after release. If you need access to a previous version up to one year old, please contact support to request the download link.
